A rack unit (RU or U) is a standardized unit of measurement for the vertical height of equipment racks and the devices that mount inside them. It’s defined as 1.75 inches (44.45 mm). Rack unit designations (like 1U, 2U, 3U) are used to specify the height of servers, network equipment, and other devices that fit into racks.
