Prox Rex (manufactured by Trojan Developments) is a touch-sensitive electronic switch primarily used in Access Control Systems as an electronic “request to exit” button. It acts as a fast, hygienic, and convenient replacement for traditional mechanical push-buttons to release locked doors.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
- Touch-to-Exit Operation: It operates via proximity or touch. The resistive-operated unit has a sensing range of up to 10mm and requires no physical pressure to activate, making it ideal for the elderly, disabled, or high-usage areas.
- No Moving Parts: Because it lacks internal mechanical springs or buttons, it is highly durable and completely tamper-resistant (all components sit behind the plate).
- Hygienic: The smooth faceplate is easy to clean, highly fade-resistant, and ideal for environments where infection control is prioritized.
- Visual/Audible Feedback: It includes built-in visual LED indicators (Red for heartbeat, Green for operated) and an audible sounder to confirm that the door has been triggered.
- Power & Outputs: The switch operates on 12Vdc (9 to 16Vdc) and draws 50mA. It features two sets of normally open (N/O) and normally closed (N/C) dry contacts, rated at 1 Amp, 30Vdc.
- Self-Calibrating: The unit is fully self-calibrating to ensure reliable activation over time.
Common Applications
- Door Release: Standard touch-to-exit egress inside office buildings or secure facilities.
- Remote Release: Used at reception desks for remote door unlocking.
- Panic Buttons: Can function as an indoor panic or duress switch.
