A Smart Em Rex (Emergency Exit Device) is a resettable, backlit push-button used in electronic access control systems to safely release electronic door locks (like magnetic locks) during an emergency.
Manufactured by Trojan Developments, it serves as a reliable, code-compliant “break-glass” alternative.
How It Works
- No Broken Glass: Unlike traditional break-glass units, the device requires no replacement parts after activation. It uses a polycarbonate window that is field-resettable with a special tool.
- Fail-Safe Mechanism: It is a passive device with minimal moving parts. Pushing the button triggers an internal mechanism that breaks the lock’s power to allow immediate exit.
- Dual Output: Features two sets of outputs: one to drop the lock’s power and another to monitor the door’s status.
Key Features
- LED Backlighting: It is illuminated to ensure it can be easily located in dark, smoke-filled, or low-visibility areas.
- Visual & Audible Alerts: Activates a red indicator bar for visual confirmation and emits an audible sound via an internal sounder.
- Versatile Mounting: Fits standard electrical flush boxes and is also available in Weather Protected (IP55) variants for outdoor or harsh environments.
